Self Portrait

The first thing I did when I started my portrait was obviously look for a portrait. I searched Google, and came across a beautiful portrait by Alexandra Nedzvetchkaya. It is called “Portrait of a Woman” and as soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to use it. I loved all the soft colours and the lighting, it was gorgeous.

Obviously, the first step was the photoshoot. My roommate took a bunch of pictures of me, and after I brought them onto my computer, the angle turned out to be wrong. I retook them using the self-timer on the camera and it worked pretty good.

After bringing the picture into Photoshop, I decided to create different layers. I created one for the face, one for the hair, the hands, the shirt, and the background.

After creating layers, I started with the background layer and started to paint with different brushes and using different filters to try and imitate the look. This took a long time to get right.

After this, I went on to the face and the hair, doing the same thing I did with the background. This time, I used the clone tool a bit in order to get the right texture. I repeated this with the hands.

After the hands, came the shirt. I turned the opacity down, picked a brush and lightly painted over top of the picture.

After this it was all just touching up and fixing last things. I think I did a pretty good job of replicating the original, but I think I also added a bit of my own personal touch to make it my own.

Think About It....

Slideshow Process

When I first heard of the assignment for a slideshow, I really wasn’t sure what type of theme to do. After thinking about it for a while, I decided I wanted to do something that left a message or had a meaning to it. Inspired by my recent missions trip to Mexico, I decided upon the theme of hunger/poverty.

After deciding on my theme, I needed to find pictures. I went on Google and I searched and found all of my pictures. I then proceeded to resize them so they were all the same size.

After resizing, I duplicated the layer and made one layer black and white and placed that layer in the front. I erased the lip area from each person in the picture, so that the colour from their lips showed through from the layer beneath it. I then went in and changed some colouring and shadows, and also used the burn tool to darken the pictures up.

Next, I need to find something that was contradictory to scan in. I played with the idea of scanning food in, or food labels and I decided to scan in chocolate bars (which are my weakness) and other candy. The chocolate bars turned out, but the other candy didn’t, so I decided to settle on just using the chocolate bars and finding other pictures of people eating a lot of food.

I rearranged my pictures in the Photoshop Elements slideshow maker and picked music to go along with the pictures.

This project really inspired me to keep this topic on my mind, and to think about what is going on in the world more often than I actually do. Seeing the pictures of these children starving was really hard, and I hope that I can remember those images in my mind.

art.

This art assignment involved using text. I ended up with this after playing around with it for a long time. I used different filters and all different kinds of text. I especially like the contrast and different types and sizes of fonts in this piece.

Layering

This art assignment involved using layers. The original picture is the top picture, and the bottom picture is the new one. I worked with layers and enhanced different ones, and just played around with the colour.

Moonlight

In this class assignment, we had to work with different layers, use text, filters, and lighting. I used a filter to create the curtain in the window. I created a sign and used text on it, I also added a shadow to the sign. I took a couple of people and also an umbrella out, to make it look a little less cluttered. The main thing I did was played with the lighting. I tried to create a night scene and wanted the lighting to look like light coming from the moon.

Spring Cleaning

In this art assignment, we had to take an old, damaged photograph and restore it using Photoshop.

The picture on the left side is the original of my great grandparents. The one on the right side is the restored version of it. If you look closely at the original, you can see scratches and bend marks. The new one does not have that, and the colour is a lot better too.

This second set of pictures is another set of my great grandparents. Once again the original has scratch marks and has some waterstains. The edges were also ripped. In the restored version I fixed all of that and also fixed the colour.

In this third set of pictures, the one on the top is the original that I found on the internet, and the one on the bottom is the restored version. There was a lot of water damage, colour fading, and other problems that I fixed up.

This final picture is composed of two edited versions of the pictures from above merged together. So my great grandparents got to join in on the party that was going on! This part required removing two people so the picture would look natural. One person is close to being covered up by the woman and the other one is covered using the clone tool and also by making a woman's skirt cover him.

Personal Logo Redone

This is my new personal logo. I like how this one turned out a lot better then the first one. There's more detail, and its a little more complex. I like the letters a lot better too.
